Standing Desk Update

I was | | close to switching back to a sitting desk today. Mostly because I’ve been having issues concentrating while writing documents at my work-based standing desk. It’s been just over a month since I made the switch at work. Everything was going fine until I got a big project that I needed to create a test plan for. This means a decent amount of writing while comparing requirements docs to user experience wireframes.

I found myself seeking out a place to sit down and write the test plan that was required of me. Comparatively when I’m working at home from my standing desk I have no problems writing and reading documentation.

I made a comparison of the setup differences between work and home:

Home Standing Desk:

  • Wood Frame Floor
  • Padded Carpet w/ subfloor
  • Stamina Mat
  • Monitors at eye level
  • Keyboard at mid-torso level
  • Fan blowing
Work Standing Desk
  • Concrete Floor
  • No Carpet
  • Stamina Mat (same mat)
  • Monitors below eye level
  • Keyboard at mid-torso level
  • Fan blowing
The easiest thing to fix was bringing the monitors to eye level. Yes, my legs have been hurting a bit at work due to the concrete floor, but now that I’ve brought the monitors up I should be leaning forward less which should make my body work less to maintain balance which should translate into less leg fatigue.
