Ok, I know, the title of this post is totally an SEO scam, but seriously it doesn’t matter.
Megan and I went to see Conan O’Brien on stage tonight for his Minneapolis stop on the “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television” tour. Here’s the highlight post from the Team Coco site
It was well worth the money to watch a show he put together in not a lot of time. From this whole situation of his the thing that I found most interesting was a comment he made while visiting Google headquarters. He said he didn’t spend a single dollar in advertising this tour. A single tweet sold out a tour. A WHOLE TOUR. Â Also, by having the fans themselves promote the tour he nailed his demographic. Nobody was going to be complaining because people that really are fans were the ones that were able to buy tickets. Ok, now the highlights.
- Reggie Watts started out the evening. He’s pretty awesome with his live music mixing/dj style and song writing.
- Conan’s band started out with some great music including a song (that I can’t remember the name to) where the trumpet player held a note for about 90 seconds and everyone kept yelling “hold that note” I feel like a dumbass for not remembering the name to this song (Moonlight, Midnight, Downtown after… I don’t remember)
- Conan did some introductory stand up which included the 8 steps for mourning that a former television talk show host goes through.
- Andy Richter made his appearance to Trololo
- At one point Conan came out in the suit that Eddie Murphy wore in 1987. A plastic leisure suit (not kidding).
- Triumph showed up on screen to greet the crowd in typical douchebag fashion and dubbed over the location and details (which was still funny)
- The masturbating bear showed up, but because it’s technically the intellectual property of NBC it has been redone to be the self-pleasuring panda.
- Brian Setzer showed up and played “Rock This Town” with Conan on backup guitar. It ended with both of them on their backs. You could tell it wasn’t planned because Setzer seemed to be following Conan’s lead.
Thanks Conan. Can’t wait to watch you on TBS this fall.
