Private Family Facebook Groups

Facebook has been somewhat anti-privacy lately with the new ‘via’ tool, new privacy settings (which defaults to not private) that actually make it less private, the fact that all profiles will have limited information made available to search engines, and the fact that their CEO has publicly stated that the status quo is to have your status be public info.

Today I saw an ad on my home feed on Facebook that said you could start a Private Family Group on Facebook that would allow you to share family photos privately with… family. They even had a nifty form setup to start the group complete with an email address field to invite family that isn’t yet on Facebook.

My question: How long until this isn’t private anymore either. Also will the fact that you published a picture be posted on your newsfeed for ALL your friends or just family members that are part of the group?
