This one was just too good to pass up…

The blog: Is There A Problem Here is run by fellow tester, Ben Simo. The posts are pretty good geek fun and I subscribed right away, but lately I’ve been noticing broken images.

This actually isn’t a problem with Ben’s site, it’s a problem that I’ve encountered before with Feedburner.  If you create a post that goes to your Feedburner feed and then later delete the post and images related to the post Feedburner doesn’t remove it from your history.

Nice site, Ben!

    Yes, you found a problem.

Thanks. I could say “It works fine on my machine”, but I’ve seen issues too. I was thinking there might just be something flaky on my end.

It seems to be related to image hosting services not being able to keep up with the load — plus some API calls in image references that don’t seem to always work as expected.

So, the lesson learned here is to not directly use images from others that are on image hosting sites. Just because an image is on an image hosting site that generates links to use the images on other web sites doesn’t mean it will work. I’ve fixed most of those already posted, and we’ll not trust other image hosts going forward.

    Thanks again.

    Ben
