Christmas Shopping

in Personal

I’m definitely glad that I don’t believe in getting up early in the morning the day after Thanksgiving to go stand in long lines and hope that I get ahold of something for a great deal. Really the gifts that I try to buy are a little more meaningful than “I got a great deal on it so I’m giving it to you”.  I understand that people need to save money, but they shouldn’t base their gifts on whether or not they could save money. What happened to planning and personalizing the gift? Making it something that actually means something to the other person instead of a new DS or a Santa toaster (my dad got one last year).

I know a lot of people are volunteering this year, but a lot more could. I did last year at the Minneapolis Miracle. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had. The people getting fed were definitely thankful and the people volunteering were great to work with. I stuck myself back in the dishroom cleaning dishes the whole time, but I don’t mind doing it when you get to handle a big-ass sprayer and a sanitizing dishwasher. I’m not able to volunteer this year because of all the driving Megan and I will be doing, but I looked into it. I’ll try to do something around Easter time or I’ll help out with Sharing & Caring Hands (just sent an email).  There is plenty you can do in your own community to help out. Whether it’s donating to the food shelf or volunteering there. I grew up in a small community so I know it never seems there’s something you can help doing, but contact a few churches around the area or the local food shelf, they’ll know.  It’s even better if you can do it regularly. You’re only too busy if you don’t make the time to do it. Besides, it’s a great family activity.

I guess what I’m trying to say is make Christmas special for you, your family, and someone else this year.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
