Maybe it’s the memories of being in high school choirs, musicals, or MASLC, but there’s something about the new show on Fox that hits home to me. I remember missing the pilot on Fox back in the spring of this year, and then when I finally got around to watching it on Hulu I was blown away. Here is high school slapping me in the face in the disguise of overdone antics and inflated egos. However what makes it all mesh is the music. They obviously casted singers.

Ever since I watched it, I couldn’t wait for the premiere. I’m no longer waiting. Last night I went to The Local in downtown Minneapolis to a gathering of 15-20 like-minded ‘gleeks’ to watch the pilot and the premiere. During commercial breaks of the show the conversation in the room we had reserved would get pretty loud. The best part was when the show came back on.  In classic high school fashion the ‘shushing’ was almost louder then the commercial break volume, but it made me laugh and helped me appreciate my surroundings so much more.

Watching the pilot, the videos since, and the premiere tonight makes me want to be back in a choir singing my heart out to whomever decided to be an audience. It’s never been about solo performances for me, it’s always better as a group. Each member draws energy and excitement from the other and both the group performing and the audience are the ones to gain. I had the fortunate experience of being in a traveling choir after high school and still to this day remember rehearsing long hours, long bus rides, and the awesome friendships that I gained and still maintain. It wasn’t about the music, that was only the reason for being there. Performing together made it something more.

Look at me getting all nostalgic. Anyways. Check Glee out for yourself if you haven’t already.
