I find it irritating that a good number of companies are AUTO-ENROLLING new employees in 401K programs at 3%. If you do not want to throw money in to the 401K pit you have to wait for 30days and "opt out". Stop thinking for me and do what _I_ want with my paycheck!!!

Unless you're completely debt free I believe it's much wiser to put your money towards becoming debt free. After that I'll look at retirement funds. yeah yeah yeah ... compound interest ... it works both ways. I have a house and a van that I am paying interest on. Paying those loans off early are real and actual and guaranteed money in my pocket.

Remember, in the stock market, if someone much better at it than me makes $10,000 then a bunch of folks like me, collectively, lost $10,000. If I pay off my loan(s) early then I save money AND have the real asset to boot. regardless ... money just doesn't multiply and appear out of thin air (unless you're the government and you can either just take more from everyone or just print it).
