Had a few people over Friday night for a night of games, company, and a few beers. All in all it was a great night. There were only 4 of us, but we played a good number of games.

Numbers League was the first one up. I discovered this game at a Clockwork game night. A coworker had brought it in as part of the wide variety of available activities. Megan gave it to me for my birthday (which isn’t until August, but she couldn’t wait for me to open it.) The game is based on the premise of superheroes and villains. It is done in a comic book style on purpose, right down to the instruction booklet. The instructions are very detailed an pretty easy to follow, but you do need to read them through to understand the game. The characters on the cards are very well drawn. The premise is that you build superheroes and equip them with devices with the cards that you are dealt. Each Superhero, device, and villain is assigned a number value. If the value of your superhero matches that of a villain, you capture the villain. I do have to mention that this a great game for kids who are learning their basic math skills. My roommate’s daughter played for a little while, she’s 6, but she was doing pretty good with addition up to 10. Sometimes counting up with 4 or more cards.

There are 3 levels of difficulty possible. Hero level is the basic one. There are no multipliers, just straight addition and subtraction. Superhero level adds in multiplication. The expansion set contains the cards to play Infinity level. I haven’t tried this one yet, but it involves multipliers and .5′s. Megan and I plan on building ourselves up to this level.

Farkle was next up. For those of you that haven’t heard of it, you may know it by “10,000″. Anyways, all you need is 6 dice and paper to keep score. The version we bought was at Target for about $5. It’s a very addicting and easy to catch onto game. My roommates 6 yr old plays with us regularly, and she’s pretty good. By the time we got to it she was already passed out on the couch with her stuffed animals. Anyways, you can play this game with any number of players. You can even play it solitaire style by keeping track of how many rounds it takes to get to 10,000, but it’s more fun to compete against people.

phase10

Phase 10 was the last one we got to. By this time it was about 2am and we were all tired of playing. However, it’s a fun and quick game where you have to get a specific combination of cards in order to go out. It follows in the realm of Uno, Crazy 8′s but is mostly a simpler version of Gin. Point values are given to cards left in your hand when the first player goes out with zero cards. It can be fast paced with more advanced players, but it all depends on the card draw.

Anyways, that was gamenight. Overall a very fun night that lasted quite a while. The goal was to have a good time with good friends.
