Where you work, Where you play

I’m just going to get this out of the way now.  I work for an awesome company.  I’m not using the term lightly either.  The president of the company commonly says that she works with a bunch of “smartest people in the room” and being in the office everyday makes me think she’s being a little modest.  Never before in my career have I ever had so much respect for every single one of my co-workers. They are positively the best in what they do, and I’m humbled to be included in this group.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, there’s another thing that continues to surprise me.  Why is it that we spend at least 40 hours a week together, where I interact with every one of them at least once a day even if it’s not work related.  A large group of us went out on an impromptu pub crawl last night through NE Minneapolis. It is always a fun time. Unlike other work-outings that I’ve been at with other companies, there isn’t a promise of free food/drink, or an expectation to be there.  Not everyone was able to come out on such a short notice, which is understandable.  Spouses/Signifigant Others were present; some for a good majority of the night.  We got started early, and we ended early (morning).  There wasn’t much for shop talk, it’s about being friends.

We work in a very high-pressure and fast moving industry.  We have to keep up and stay ahead all at the same time.  You lag you die is a great mantra for the web industry.  So it speaks wonders for everyone that we can be as high pressure as we are and still have time to enjoy each other outside of being official.  There wasn’t anywhere else that I would have rather been last night.  I was there with people I respect, trust, and enjoy being around.

So here’s to you, Clockwork.  And thank you.
