Now that I’ve gotten everything moved into my new place, I need to get it organized. At least it doesn’t involve carrying anything. I was quite surprised when I signed my lease that the property manager here stated that she was surprised at how prepared my roommate and I were. Electricity had already been transferred, and cable was scheduled to be hooked up the following day. Apparently people just kind of let things fall in place. I can’t do that. Even though I wasn’t completely prepared for the move itself (I ended up putting clothes into laundry baskets or big garbage bags (great for a car, not good for a moving truck)).
I’ve tried 3 times now to turn off my gas service at my old place, but the company doesn’t seem to like receiving calls, which is confusing since they post the phone number on their bill and offer an email online for service related inquiries. I sent an email on Monday to them stating that I needed to turn off my service and that they should contact me at the listed phone number. I called on Tuesday and Wednesday and received an automated response of (paraphrased) “We’re busy, call back when we arent” grrr.
Now that all the electronics are setup and working great this place is definitely comfortable. I was surprised at the ease my cat had in getting used to the place. Can’t say I blame her though, she’s moved 4 times in her 3 years and I suppose that the presence of her litter box, food, and water helps the transition. She spent about an hour sniffing around and then went back to her old self. Note for me: Don’t leave receipts lying around for her anymore. I may as well try to break her of the habit of bringing me small slips of trash paper for me to crumple up and throw (she plays fetch). I bought her some spongeballs from Petsmart. She enjoys those things immensly. After cleaning up the old place, I found a number of them under the couches, oven, and behind boxes in the basement. Guess I didn’t need to buy new ones afterall. Oh well, she’s happy and content, and that’s what really matters.
I did come to the realization that moving 20 miles is a LOT easier than moving 1 block. My roommate moved from across the street and down about a block. With his furniture, that was about the toughest part of the move. Instead of loading it on a truck just to drive it a block, we decided to dolly it. However, most of the furniture wouldn’t fit through the doors on the dolly, so we had to strap it down, roll it, unstrap it, then move it in. Next time I move; I’m going to move farther than a block.
With all the electronics that he and I have we have quite the setup now. I had HD Video before, but now we have HD audio because his receiver had the optical plug-in. It’s rather strange to see the nice blue light appear and tell us what the surround sound capabilities are of the source. He’s never seen those messages either, so we spent 15 minutes clicking through channels on digital cable and turning the Xbox and PS3 on to see what the message displayed.
Anyways, wanted to write something quick now that I’ve got everything moved in. Thanks for reading!
