With all the new “social media” websites available, do you need to join them all or a good majority of them? I don’t have a clear answer for this. Do you feel the need to be in the forefront of the people you know with all the cool things you are doing. Are you a trendsetter? You need to answer this for yourself, no writer, website, or other person besides yourself is going to answer this question for you. What makes you happy? What helps you make it through your day?
Personally, I don’t feel the need to be actively engaged with a wide range of the sites out there that promise to make my life easier. If you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ll remember my “Dam the stream” post where I commented on my self-prescribed mobile cut-off from a good portion of my online presence. FYI, I haven’t looked back, and quite enjoy my time away from the interwebs.

Haven’t gotten into the whole craze yet of really anything, maybe you haven’t found the right resource. Knowem.com gives a list of over 100 popular websites and allows you to check the username availability for each. Anyways, you may be surprised what kinds of sites are there. Sometimes you never know until you look. Of course there is always the option to continue with your current lifestyle and keep yourself connected through your own means.
This all goes back to peer pressure. Do you feel the need to follow what all your friends are doing just because they say you should. I’ve found that some of the smartest and most social people that I know aren’t willing to actively participate in something (online or not) because it doesn’t interest them. Some of them try anything that they do find, and they decide at that time if it fits into what they do on a daily basis.
So I guess it all boils down to whether or not a site contains what you need to make your life or the communication thereof easier. For me, I’ll try it, but if it doesn’t appeal to me, I’ll stop using it.
