I’ve come to conclusion that I need to start teaching again. I’ve learned from my past experience teaching that I need to limit the time that I take to teach. So on weekends it is.
Why do I feel the need to teach again? Maybe it’s in my blood. Both my parents gained their teaching degrees in college and I’ve always enjoyed showing someone how something works or how to do something that they want to learn. The larger reason is that I can’t forget how good it felt to show a kid that those notes on the page can transfer into something on the piano (or violin). This is one of those things that you reminisce about but that isn’t going to be disappointing or totally different doing it again.
I’ve already registered dezlessons.com (don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work yet, I registered it while I was writing this post).
I’m going to stick with the ages that I taught before (all). And I’m going to stick with my original lesson plan of teaching how to play, not what to play. I found this to be extremely important. Of course there is importance in the classics, and those will be requested to learn at some point.
When I taught before I always travelled to the student’s house. This was mostly because I believed it was easier if the kid was in an environment that they were comfortable in. If necessary, I’ll rent out a practice room from one of the area music store’s or schools. However that always seems so impersonal, and I don’t want to teach during the week.
So if you live in the Twin Cities area, have an interest in learning (or have kids who do). Get ahold of me (comment on this post, the comments aren’t auto-approved).
